Perth, Aug 23, 2011 (Global Fashion Wire) - The Third International Conference of Fashion Incubators will be held at the Parmelia Hilton in Perth from the 11th until the 13th of September 2011. Kylie Hansen, Chief Executive Officer of 'Carpets for Communities' Cambodia will address the conference about the very important and empowering project.

'Carpets for Communities' provide immediate intervention to children at risk of child labour and human trafficking. They empower mothers to earn an income through the production of hand-made, eco-friendly rugs and support them in developing micro-enterprises to do this. 'Carpets for Communities', works in the Poipet Commune, Cambodia which is on the Thailand border. Here, many children are at risk of human trafficking and being sold into prostitution as they are on the streets begging or working to support their family. Equally important, by working and begging they are deprived of an education that would otherwise improve their long-term livelihoods. This ultimately has them trapped in a cycle of poverty that 'Carpets for Communities' aims to break by empowering the mothers and their families.

The rugs are high quality, shag-pile, durable floor rugs with stunning colours and multiple sizes. They offer comfort for your feet and a beautiful piece for any bedroom, bathroom, lounge room or kitchen. Each rug is eco-friendly, made from post- production cotton t-shirt off- cuts and used hessian rice sacks. Each piece of rolled cotton is individually hooked through the hessian sacks then stitched along the bottom. This hand-hooked process makes the carpets very durable; they can be vacuumed and are machine washable.

The Third International Conference of Fashion Incubators is being hosted by community organisations Textile Clothing Footwear Resource Centre of WA (TCFWA), designedge Fashion Incubator, TCF Global and the Belmont BEC. These organisations provide those in the fashion, TCF creative industries access to business workshops, online mentoring, forums, industry cluster networks, and national and global linkages to other small businesses operating in the textile, clothing, footwear & leather industry across Australia and around the globe.

The conference will offer new opportunities for fashion business educators and fashion trade events from around the globe to network, discuss best practice and expand global designer marketing and promotional opportunities. The Conference will aim to build on past successful conferences of International Fashion Incubators held in UK and USA. It will assist the growth and development of fashion industry business educators and those that nurture and support emerging designers, as well as elevating Perth on the international fashion stage.

The event will present challenging speakers at the forefront of the industry as well as a range of practitioners willing to share their experiences and expertise, exhibitors and great opportunities for global networking. The Conference will also announce the establishment of an International Fashion Incubator Organisation.

Conference Convenor, Carol Hanlon said "'Carpets for Communities' is a wonderful initiative that offers immediate intervention to give at risk children an education by empowering their mothers to produce eco fair-trade products which they can sell globally."
